Moxy's Modern Mercantile opened strong in mid-February with a flood of shoppers who had been watching the OPEN SOON sign with anticipation. If its possible to be trendy, edgy and old-fashioned all at the same time, then Lara Kahler and Jon Estalita, shop owners, have achieved the near-impossible. I walked out with my slick black shopping bag filled with an eclectic assortment of items ranging from an Artisan Soy Wax Candle in a delicious Grapefruit scent to colorful hand towels and a beautiful collection Mercury Glass Votive Holders. Jon promised to find salt mills and I promised to come back and buy their flavored chipped rock salt. The building dates to the late 1800s and is wonderfully restored with many contemporary touches but it is still decidedly retro. Much like the display of old 78 vinyl records and new 78 record players at the entrance to
the store ... they really set the tone of old and new seamlessly blended into an enjoyable whole.
